An official ceremony of the Change of Command was held at the German CBRN Defence, Safety and Environmental Protection School in Sonthofen on Thursday 13 September 2018. During the ceremony, Colonel Klaus Werner Schiff changed responsibility with Colonel Volker Robert Quante. The ceremony was held under the command of Colonel Henry Neumann, Commander of the Bundeswehr CBRN Defence Command in Bruchsal as the school’s superior unit. He expressed his gratitude to the leaving commander and wished success to new appointed Commander.

A Joint Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence Centre of Excellence (JCBRN Defence COE) delegation, led by Director Colonel Vratislav Osvald, attended this official ceremony as Colonel Volker Robert Quante was the Centre’s former Deputy Director.

Colonel (GS) Volker R. Quante (German Army) is Deputy Director of the NATO Joint CBRN Defence Centre of Excellence with nearly 40 years of experience in the Military.

He has a broad background in CBRN Defence (different leading positions, including Commander 750 CBRN Defence Battalion “BADEN”) and in CIS (several assignments in the German Ministry of Defence, inter alia as Personal Advisor to IT-Director / Chief Information Officer of the Bundeswehr; Project Leader for the German Satellite Communications Project). His multinational experiences reach from Headquarters KFOR, Priština (KOS), via National Defence University, Warszawa (POL), and Joint Force Command Headquarters, Brunssum (NLD) to Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast, Szczecin (POL) and the NATO Joint CBRN Defence Centre of Excellence, Vyškov (CZE).

His academic qualifications include Diplomas in Computer Sciences and in Environmental Engineering; and he successfully passed Higher Military Studies at the Polish National Defence University in Warsaw as well as at the Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr in Hamburg.

Since 13 September 2018, he is Commander of the CBRN Defence, Safety and Environmental Protection School of the German Armed Forces.
