On 12 April 2013 the JCBRN Defence COE hosted a prestigious visit from Allied Command Transformation’s (ACT) Chief of Staff, Vice Admiral C A Johnstone-Burt.  The admiral was accompanied by the Deputy Chief of the Czech General Staff, Major General Frantisek Maleninsky, as well as several other distinguished guests.

The JCBRN Defence COE Director, COL Jiri Gajdos, welcomed the delegation and provided an update on a number of past COE achievements and current activities within the centre.  For most of the visit, however, we focused on the future and the way ahead for CBRN support to NATO conducted by the JCBRN Defence COE.  The director discussed the centre’s analysis of potential work streams in support of ACT and ACO and introduced the proposed changes in our organizational structure that would allow us to be more proactive to meet the challenges of the future. He highlighted several developing projects beneficial to the Alliance to include CBRN Reach Back, assumption of the role as CBRN Training Department Head and Quality Assurance. The JCBRN Defence COE’s Steering Committee and Sponsoring Nations are evaluating these changes for possible implementation.

Vice Admiral C A Johnstone-Burt was very impressed by the energy, enthusiasm, professionalism and initiative of the COE’s contribution to NATO and expressed his congratulations and his thanks for a marvelous visit.
