Within the framework of civil-military cooperation, the JCBRN Defence Centre of Excellence (JCBRN Defence COE) and the EU HORIZON 2020 European Network of CBRN Training Centers (eNOTICE) jointly organized the CBRN Consequence Management Course between 22 and 26 November 2021. Historically, this was the first time a member of the EU Commission from Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) attended a course at the JCBRN Defence COE.

The CBRN Consequence Management Course prepares and enables NATO, Partner nations, and their civilian equivalents to assist each other in preparing for and responding to consequences after a CBRN incident. The course included lessons covering the NATO Crisis Management concept, organization, systems and procedures including cooperation and partnership initiatives in the field of CBRN crisis and consequence management. Students participated in both theoretical lectures and syndicate work where they were tasked with developing solutions using information that had been provided during lectures.

Besides the JCBRN Defence COE, several other institutions and organizations collaborated and contributed to the course instruction including: General Directorate of Fire and Rescue Services of the Czech Republic, Dynamis Inc. USA, the Austrian CBRN Defence Centre, Media & Communications Ltd. UK and Dutch Armed Forces Defence Materiel Organizations.

Thirty-one participants from Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Iraq, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and United Kingdom participated in the course.

The course’s student feedback demonstrated that the course met its objectives and would add value to their career development.
